Litigation &
Arbitration.
Litigation requires strategic foresight, not just legal arguments. Whether in the Common Courts of Georgia or international arbitration tribunals, our attorneys provide professional representation for legal disputes to secure your assets and outmaneuver the opposition.
The Court System
Navigating Georgian Justice
The Georgian court system operates on three tiers: the City Court (First Instance), the Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court (Cassation). While the system has modernized significantly, procedural delays and complex bureaucratic requirements can derail a case before it even begins.
For international businesses, the choice between local litigation and Arbitration is critical. While Georgian courts are cost-effective, arbitration offers speed and confidentiality. At Tbilisi Law, we assess your position early to determine the most efficient battlefield for your dispute—whether that means filing an immediate freezing order (injunction) or negotiating a favorable settlement.

Litigation Questions
How long does a court case take in Georgia?
Litigation timelines vary. A standard First Instance case in Tbilisi City Court can take 9-18 months. If appealed to higher courts, the process can extend to 3 years. This is why we often recommend Arbitration for commercial contracts, which typically resolves disputes in 6 months.
How much are the state court fees?
The state duty for filing a lawsuit is 3% of the dispute value (capped at 5,000 GEL for First Instance). For the Court of Appeals, it is 4%, and for the Supreme Court, 5%. These fees are typically recoverable from the losing party.
Can I freeze the debtor's assets before winning?
Yes. We can apply for an "Interim Measure" (Injunction) simultaneously with filing the lawsuit. If the court grants it, the defendant's bank accounts and property are frozen immediately to secure the future judgment.
